Ethical Issues in Thereaputic Relationships

This is a counseling program and ethical issues discussed.

Case number 1 . Due to confidentiality the therapist ( I ) can not let the parties know that he sees all of them. However he can encourage Antonio for safe sex.
Case number 2 the therapist will discuss not advise! the client the pros and cons and discuss the only person will hurt is her. Case number 3 therapist need to bring up the issue on the next group session and discuss . Please write the summary as a way you are the therapist and be authentic.

1. Ethical Dilemma

“ What should Theresa do? “

In this case the ethical problem is inability to be objective.
Inability to be effective.

Being a friend with the parent of the patient.

6.Veracity – She was not truthful to herself when she was agreed to take on her closed friend son as a client who is friend with her son as well.  She discussed with the client about her being not comfortable with dual relationship however she was not honest with herself. She did not make any professional decision prior to discussion.

Action1. Consequences   - Client might have problems with transfer to someone else. Transportation will be an issue for the client.  Client might have abandonment issue to transfer. Client might not find competent therapist.

Action 2. Consequences.  The therapist will take a continuing education class in related issue.

8. Recommendation

---Theresa decided to provide counseling for her good friend son Chris. Theresa had a conflict with herself not to however she decided without consultation to take on the client.

++ Theresa new the client and his family.
++ Theresa was fairly sure she would do no harm.

--Theresa feelings changed towards her friend during counseling.  Possibility to be subjective!
---Theresa behavior changed toward the client.

---Dilemma to discuss with the parent. She did not, crossed her mind to go to a coffee house.

Recommendations are Theresa will refer the client to a competent professional and transfer the client. Theresa will sign up for a continuing educational class in related issue.
