Select a magazine of your choice and analyze the content of several issues, and, if possible, compare the print version to the on-line version (including analyzing differences in advertising and size of readership).  Write a report addressing the type of magazine, the substance of its content, the type of advertising it carries, the audience it’s targeting, and your conclusions regarding its effectiveness in achieving its objectives. Also examine the advertising content with regard to the target market of the ads (gender, age, socioeconomic status (SES)). Be sure to include a reference to the issues (dates) studied. Research and include what company owns the magazine. Be sure to include SCHOLARLY* research to help make sense of your results (with proper citations). This assignment should be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 font, and follow APA or MLA format.


Possible Points Deducted
  • -3 pts for failing to disclose which magazine (and subsequent issues/dates) was analyzed
  • -3 pts for failing to discuss online version (if one even exists)
  • -2 pts for discussing online version but failing to:
    • Analyze differences in advertising
    • Analyze differences in readership
  • -2 pts for failing to thoroughly discuss:
    • Type of magazine/substance
    • Advertising it carries
    • Audience that is being targeted
    • Student conclusions regarding the magazine’s effectiveness in achieving its objectives
  • -7 pts for failing to discuss advertising content with regards to target audience demographics
  • -2 pts for not including who owns each newspaper
  • 10 pts for not meeting the 3 page minimum requirement
  • 10 pts for not including a works cited page or for failing to actually use the citations listed in the actual paper
  • 7 pts for failing to correctly include scholarly research (but attempted…)
