Recently mainstream media has begun to realize the importance of diversifying their TV lineups. Last year shows like Empire, Orange is the New Black, Becoming Us, Jane the Virgin, Fresh off the Boat, Scandal, Power, Girl Code, The Fosters, Black-ish, Key and Peele, Tut, How to Get Away with Murder and The Carmichael Show demonstrated the need and financial benefits of providing programming for wide-array of audiences.

Watch one or more of these shows/episodes identified above and talk about the issues identified in the show(s) that might not have been presented in other predominantly “white” TV shows/characters. Make sure that you identify the show(s) you watched.  Also, discuss the importance of having TV shows that represents a broader cross section for the US TV viewing public.  Conversely, if you are watching one of these shows, did they portray a positive image or did they use the stereotype image of the characters and how might that do actual harm? How might these shows either increase or reduce prejudice and/or stereotypes?
