The paper should move beyond a mere description, and be an analysis of themes, conflicts, and transnational relationships and their consequences.  Integrate class discussion and evidence of readings from both the text and syllabus throughout the paper.  Avoid direct quotations from readings, but rather pull ideas from and integrate them, along with your own critical thinking, into your paper. Use a bio psychosocial-spiritual perspective as four main headings in your paper.

1. Discuss your understanding of Neil and other relevant characters utilizing a bio psychosocial-spiritual perspective integrating key human behavior basic concepts including systems, ecological and person-in-environment concepts.
2. Incorporate issues related to bio/physical, cognitive, emotional & psychological elements, as well as environmental, community and sociocultural risks, stressors, vulnerabilities, and strengths/resources.
3. Explore the significant characters, events, and themes in the story and detail how they contributed and/or are continuing to contribute to Neil’s early, middle, and late adolescent development - How might these characters, events, and themes go on to impact Neil’s adult development?
4. Explore indiv., couples and family dynamics /roles – including community & socioeconomic roles.
5. Identity development (including race / ethnicity / culture / gender / class / spirituality / sexuality).
6. Focus on issues unique to gay identity, relationships, and development.
7. Utilize developmental and other applicable theory to support your arguments – must use two (2).
8. Discuss evidence of coping, adaptability and resilience as well as vulnerability.
9. Discuss personal and professional challenges you might experience in working with this individual, couple, and/or family. What additional knowledge / training would be helpful?

Papers will be graded based upon: organization of and quality of writing, integration of, insight into, and understanding of readings and class discussion, application of relevant concepts/theories, and analysis, critical thinking, and integration of the story’s characters, events, issues
